Why are we doing this now?
Times are tough for those who make their living through the creative arts. We have set up a Designer Hardship Fund to help our designers through these difficult times. If you would like to support this initiative, you can donate £2 at checkout on top of your order, which will be distributed evenly among our designers that need it.
Why is this important?
Many people in the creative sector rely on physical contact to do their work and are self-employed. This means they’re more likely to miss out on Government funding, and to suffer from the effects of COVID-19 on their livelihoods. It’s important that vulnerable creative workers are supported, so that the sector can get back to business as quickly as possible.
How do we support designers?
We started Motley because we believe in recompensing creatives fairly for their work. Our designers are paid a royalty fee on every design in perpetuity that’s far above the industry average, plus a design fee. This means Motley has the potential to create a sustainable income for designers through fair commissions.
But we’re a small business that’s also vulnerable, and we have to make sure we’re still around so we can support designers in the future. We are doing what we can - like providing workshops and advice on government support and policy (with the help of our accountants).
