At Motley, most of our collections use 925 sterling silver as a base, whether in its true form or coated with a thick layer of gold (gold vermeil).

What is 925 sterling silver?

Unlike base metals, it won’t turn your skin green and it is hypoallergenic. In case you were wondering, 925 means; 92.5% out of 100% pure silver – the remaining 7.5% is copper.

Why is jewellery not made from 100% silver?

925 sterling silver requires a mixture of other metals because in its pure form, silver is very soft. Adding other metals to the silver increases the metal hardness, making it more suitable and durable for use in jewellery design and manufacturing. This allows our designers and artisans to make much more intricate designs that last the test of time.

Can I wear silver jewellery every day?

Silver is the human body's ally, the oil on your skin will protect the metal so you can wear your silver everyday to keep tarnish at bay. Oxygen is silver’s enemy: keep your jewellery in its pouch or an airtight bag to keep the oxo-demon away.
